Gang behind £90,000 jacket theft could be from Wakefield

Thousands of outdoor jackets worth more than £90,000 have been stolen from a lorry parked up in a haulage yard.

Detectives believe a highly organised criminal gang was behind the theft and could be from the Wakefield area.

More than 5,500 TOG24 jackets were stolen from a trailer at A David Transport Ltd, on Fallbank Industrial Estate in Dodworth, South Yorkshire.

The gang used around 280 boxes to carry the anoraks to their getaway vehicle which was parked in a near by field.

Det Con Steve Mason, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “The offenders will have taken a long time to load up the vast quantity of jackets, which were men’s, women’s and children’s in different styles and sizes.

“We believe the thieves are part of an organised criminal group and that this was a targeted attack.

“They are likely to have distributed the stolen items over the Christmas period, passed them to handlers or sold them to members of the public in South and West Yorkshire.”
