Cannabis worth an estimated £500,000 has been found growing in Crofton.

Police discovered more than 1,400 mature plants ready for harvest inside an abandoned building on Ashdene Drive in Crofton.

They carried out the raid on Wednesday afternoon after suspicions were raised by people living in the area.

The house had been converted especially for growing the class B drugs with watering equipment and fans.

Insp Richard Clare, of the Rural neighbourhood police team, said: “Upon arrival officers have located a large cannabis factory inside the building and two adjoining premises, with approximately 1,400 cannabis plants inside.

“The majority of plants were ready for harvesting with an approximate street value of half a million pounds.

“This is a direct result of the community working alongside the police to combat drugs use in our communities.”
