An elderly man was punched in the face during an ‘unprovoked’ attack in a city centre pub.

The victim was stood beside the pool table in the Wagon, Westgate End, when the suspect started shouting at him before carrying out the assault.

The man suffered facial injuries. The suspect is believed to have then left the pub with another man and a woman.

Police have now released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to about the incident, which happened at around 8.55pm on Friday, March 20.

The suspect was of medium build, in his mid 20s, around 5ft 8ins tall and had short black spiky hair. He was wearing a tight T-shirt and blue jeans. He may also have had a sleeve of tattoos on his left arm.

Sgt Chris Raby, of the Central neighbourhood police team (NPT), said: “This unprovoked attack took place when the pub was busy and I am sure someone will have seen something, or will be able to identify the person in the CCTV.”

Anyone with any information or who witnessed the incident should contact the NPT on 101, quoting reference number 13150112730. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
