A gang thought to be Barnsley FC supporters threw bottles at passengers at Wakefield Kirkgate Railway Station.

It happened at around 9.50pm on Saturday, January 11.

PC Christopher McGlynn, investigating officer, said: “The group of men were waiting at the station when they began to shout and throw objects including bottles at passengers on the opposite platform.

“Although no one was injured, it must have been an intimidating environment for other passengers simply waiting for their train home.

“We believe the men may have been Barnsley FC supporters who were returning home from the cancelled fixture at Charlton.”

“We do not tolerate anti-social behaviour like this and we will be continuing our enquiries, including viewing any available CCTV and speaking to witnesses.”
