A man has been accused of exposing himself to girls near a string of Wakefield schools.

Alan Townsend, 53, is also accused of performing solo sex acts after searching for single or groups of girls round schools in the district.

Townsend faces seven charges of public nuisance alleged to have happened in New Road, Gill Sike Road, Horbury Bridge, Silcoates Lane, Wrenthorpe, Potovens Lane, Outwood, Portobello and Fall Lane, East Ardsley, between March and June.

Prosecutor Diane Gomersall, outlining the case, said: “He has, while driving on false number plates been searching for single or groups of females round schools. When he has found them he has taken down his trousers and underwear and exposed himself.”

But Townsend, of Queens Drive, Ossett, gave no indication of pleas when he appeared at Wakefield Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

District Judge Lewis Johns said the case should be sent to Leeds Crown Court for trial.

He bailed Townsend on the condition that he doesn’t drive a motor vehicle at any time and resides at home.

Townsend next faces court on July 22.
