Zdenko Turtak, 21, from Velka Ida, Kosice, Slovakia, made a brief appearance at Leeds Magistrates’ Court this morning over the attack on an 18-year-old woman in Beeston on March 6.

Wearing a police-issue grey sweater and grey tracksuit bottoms and flanked by three security officers, he spoke only to confirm his name and personal details, telling the court he had no fixed address.

The case was adjourned until July 24, when Turtak will appear at Leeds Crown Court.

Turtak was extradited back to the UK last night by officers from West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.

He was flown from the Slovakian capital Bratislava, where he had been held following his arrest at his home on June 4, to Liverpool before being transported to Leeds police district headquarters, in Elland Road, earlier today.
