A man was slashed during a vicious knife attack in Wakefield city centre.

The 25-year-old victim was cut across his arms as he tried to protect himself.

He had been out with friends and was walking through White Horse Yard at around 1.50am on Sunday morning.

As he headed towards George Street his two attackers demanded money in an alcove which was previously used as a car park for Mex Bar.

But when he refused one of the attacker pulled out a knife and slashed the victim as he tried to fight back.

He was then hit on the back of his head and knocked to the floor.

Police said the suspects had Eastern European accents and that one was wearing a red hoodie.

DC Donna Moss of Wakefield CID, said: “This was a particularly nasty attack against someone who was simply enjoying a night out in the city centre.”

Anyone with any information should contact police on 101.
