Detectives are hunting a man who tried to snatch a woman’s handbag on Monday lunchtime.
The 55-year-old victim was walking along Queensbury Avenue, in Outwood, at around 12.45pm when a man approached her from behind.
He tried to grab her bag but he resisted and the suspect ran off empty handed in the direction of Sheridan Street.
The suspect was described as a black man who was wearing a long grey overcoat and a flat hat.
DC Nick Drinkall, of Wakefield CID, said: “We are investigating this incident and are appealing for witnesses.
“I would ask anyone who saw this incident or a man fleeing the scene wearing a grey coat and a hat to contact Wakefield CID.”
