Netherton man charged with causing the death of a biker in Dewsbury

A man has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a motorcyclist in Dewsbury by driving without due care and attention.

Daniel Harbridge is accused of causing the death of James Haigh on January 2.

Mr Haigh, 32, had been riding his Suzuki motorbike to work at Richard Allen Engineering in Shaw Cross when the crash happened.

Emergency services were called to Huddersfield Road shortly after 6.45am.

Mr Haigh, of Dalton, was taken to Dewsbury and District Hospital but died of his injuries.

Harbridge, 19, of Blacker Lane, Netherton, is said to have been driving a VW Golf carelessly on Huddersfield Road before the crash.

He appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court in Huddersfield for the first time yesterday afternoon.

The case was adjourned and the next hearing is expected to be held on August 28.
