Officers and staff began working from the new multi-million pound police headquarters today (Monday).

The new Wakefield Divisional Headquarters, on Havertop Lane, Normanton, will be the base for response and CID teams, the Normanton and Featherstone neighbourhood police team.

It will also be used by office staff and house a 35 cell custody suite.

The phased move is expected to be completed by December 23.

There will also be a front desk for the public to use.

The front counter at Wood Street Station in Wakefield and the public access point in Castleford will also remain open.

Chief Supt Andy Battle, Wakefield District Commander, said: “This new divisional headquarters will be very energy efficient and will provide a single more effective custody site for the whole district, replacing the two current sites at Wakefield and Pontefract, which simply did not meet the future needs of the force.

“It will also provide improved victim, witness and safeguarding accommodation.”

The other six NPTs, including Central, North West and Rural, will remain based in their own communities.

Improvement works at Carr Gate specialist operational training centre are expected to be completed by next April.
