A pair of "young females" were arrested by police following the incident, Wakefield Council said.

The victim was tracked down and offered support after the alleged attack was captured on CCTV.

The incident took place on January 14, earlier this year, but has now only just been revealed in a report by the council's portfolio holder for communities, Maureen Cummings.

Coun Cummings said: "CCTV operatives were monitoring two young females who are known to cause a nuisance in and around Wakefield Bus Station when one of them punched a male in the face as the other filmed on a mobile phone.

"Police attended and arrested them both. With the help of CCTV, they tracked the victim who turned out to have special needs."

The same report also described how a "well known shoplifter" was arrested after allegedly stealing five tubs of washing tablets from Wilko's.

The alleged theft took place on January 19 this year, at Wilko's store in Pontefract.

The report said CCTV operators were able to guide the police to the suspect.
