Police appeal for witnesses to street attack and robbery

A man was knocked to the ground and robbed in a “cowardly” attack in Wakefield city centre.

And detectives have released CCTV images of the men they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

Police said 37-year-old man was grabbed from behind and assaulted by three men outside Boots Opticians on Kirkgate.

The men stole his phone and cash card and forced the victim to reveal his pin number before fleeing.

The card was later used to with draw cash from the victim’s account.

The first suspect was aged 20 to 30 years old, and about 5ft 9ins.

He was of a big build with dark coloured short hair and had a scar across his left eye.

He was wearing black polo shirt or jumper and dark trousers.

The second suspect was aged between 20 and 30 and of a similar height.

He also had dark short hair.

and was wearing a tight fitting T-shirt and dark trousers.

The third suspect of a similar age and about 5ft 7ins tall.

DC Laura Wheatley of Wakefield CID, said: “We are continuing investigations into what was a cowardly attack by three men on a lone victim who was minding his business.

“I would appeal to anyone who recognises the men pictured in the CCTV stills to speak to us as we would like to speak to them in connection with the attack.”

The incident took place just after 11.50pm at Wednesday, October 22,
