Police have slammed a woman who drove at least 100 miles to get a McDonald's in Yorkshire on Saturday - crossing through three counties on the way.

North Yorkshire Police said the journey was "not classed as essential" travel and it was "unlikely she was 'lovin' it' when she was given a fixed penalty notice.

The woman had travelled from Lincolnshire to Scarborough to grab her Big Mac and fries - a journey of more than 100 miles according to police.

Police acknowledged that most people in the county "are trying really hard to stop the spread of Covid".

They said "when this pandemic is over, it'll be fantastic to be able to go where we want, when we want" and thanked those sticking to restrictions.

"But most of us wouldn't dream of driving 100 miles during lockdown to get one.

"On Saturday, one woman decided to visit Scarborough from Lincolnshire for a McDonald's meal.

"Driving through three counties to get a burger is not classed as essential travel.

"And it's unlikely she was 'lovin' it' when she received a fixed penalty from North Yorkshire Police.

"Most people in North Yorkshire are trying really hard to stop the spread of Covid in our communities and protect the most vulnerable.

Police in North Yorkshire have vowed to crackdown on people breaking covid restrictions, as it’s revealed that they issued over a hundred fixed penalty notices in the first week of this lockdown.

Fines were issued to both residents of the county and visitors, with 33 being issued to people from West Yorkshire crossing the county border to take exercise.

107 fixed penalty notices have been issued since last Monday’s lockdown announcement, more than twice the amount of the number given out in the first week of the first lockdown.

Scarborough saw the highest number of fines given, with 49 penalties issued.
