PC Penny Halliwell, the investigating officer, said: “The victim was sitting alone at the station waiting for a train when a group of five youths walked onto the platform and sat on a bench further down the platform.”

The officer also said one of the attackers was aged 12 and Eastern European, approached the victim and asked him for the time.

PC Halliwell said: “A short while later the group approached the victim, surrounded him and demanded his mobile phone. He then remembers being punched in the face and I believe he was momentarily knocked unconscious. When he woke, he discovered his bag and mobile phone had been stolen.”

“This was very intimidating experience for the victim, who was very shaken by his ordeal. He was disorientated and concussed following the incident and was required to spend the night in Pinderfields Hospital.
