Thief caught trying car door handles in Ossett

A male was sighted on Valley Road and Grove Street in the early hours of Saturday morning, walking along the street and trying handles as he went.

A resident witnessed this and shouted to him that the police had been called, so the male made off.

Officers were sent to the area and sighted a male nearby that matched the description and the suspect was promptly arrested.

Am police spokesman said: "Please remember to remove all your valuables, however small, from view or place them in the boot when leaving your vehicles.

"Always double check to make sure that your vehicle is locked, by trying the door handles, before leaving it."
