West Yorkshire Police Wildlife and Rural officers said they were called to the Denby Dale area where they found a three month old Hebridean lamp decapitated.

They said it was 'clean cut' and not caused by another animal.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police are investigating an incident, which is believed to have occured between 9pm on July 19 and 11.30am on July 20, involving the killing of livestock in a paddock off Barnsley Road.

Police are appealing for help in finding those responsible.

"Anyone who saw individuals acting suspiciously in the area during this period or has information as to those responsible, is asked to contact the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 13200364005, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
