VIDEO: Man arrested after police operation in Wakefield city centre

A man has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill after an incident in Wakefield city centre.

Armed officers, the police helicopter and dog units circled Wakefield Cathedral, Trinity Walk and The Ridings after police received reports of a man being seen with a gun.

DCI Michelle Martin, of Wakefield CID, said the man did not have a firearm and was arrested in relation to an earlier alleged domestic incident.

She added: “The man was not found to be carrying any firearms and enquiries into the overall incident remain ongoing.”

The 29-year-old was arrested on Kirkgate at around 2.50pm this afternoon (Monday) and remains in police custody.
