The incident happened at the woman's home in South Elmsall, near Pontefact, on March 30 this year.

Farmer, 30, was the subject of a restraining order at the time which banned him from going to South Elmsall after he caused criminal damage at the victim's home.

Mr Nicholson said the victim had been at her sister's home nearby shortly before the attack.

She returned home to find Farmer standing in the kitchen.

The prosecutor said: "He went up to her, grabbed her by the throat and threw her on to the kitchen floor.

"He chocked her, punched her and hit her with his fist to the face."

"The woman went in and out of consciousness during the attack."

Mr Nicholson said: "He then bit her cheek really hard."

At that point the victim's sister arrived at the house but was unable to get in as the door was locked.

The victim managed to get away from Farmer and get out through a side door.

She suffered a puncture wound to her face.

The following day the woman returned home to find Farmer asleep in a bedroom with a blanket over him.

He left after she told him to leave the property.

Farmer was arrested on March 24. He denied the attack and accused the victim of telling lies.

He told police: "She got p****d up and she's blamed me.
