Flass Lane, Castleford

Adam Walker, prosecuting, said the attack happened on February 12, 2018, after the victim received a voicemail from Hetherington telling her she had just slept with her boyfriend.

The woman went to a caravan at land on Flass Lane where her boyfriend had been staying.

She found the defendant and the man naked inside the caravan.

Mr Walker said the woman argued with Hetherington and was attacked as she started to collect her belongings from the caravan.

The 27-year-old repeatedly punched the woman in the face and pulled her hair.

She escaped the assault by climbing over a fence and contacted police.

The woman had her nose broken in three places.

She had a cut to her eye which needed ten stitches and suffered internal bleeding.

In a victim statement read to the court on her behalf, she said: "The assault left me feeling totally depressed to the point where I have considered ending my own life.

"My whole life flashed before my eyes.

"It took all my strength to stand up.

"There did not seem to be any compassion from Hetherington.

"She seemed inhuman in the way she attacked me."

She described how she continues to have flashbacks about the attack two years after it happened, adding: "I barely leave my house and my daughters do all my shopping for me.

"I'm always checking that my doors are locked.

"I am a very anxious and nervous person as a result."

Hetherington, of Hepworth Street, Castleford, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

She has previous convictions for violence, robbery and possessing weapons.

At the time of the incident she was the subject of a suspended prison sentence for battery.

Shila Whitehead, mitigating, said: "She accepts that she went too far and was disgusted with her behaviour.

"She has not had the most easy life.

"She is now in a better place than she has been for many years.

"This is the first time that she has got her life in order and she is moving forward."

Ms Whitehead added: "I am told that she has recently found out that she might be pregnant.

"It is hoped that that will be the beginning of her turning a corner and being a law-abiding citizen and not come before the court in the future."

Hetherington was jailed for 14 months.

Judge Simon Phillips QC said: "After this attack the victim of your offending remains gravely affected by it.

"That is the consequence of the vicious attack you launched on her."
