Warehouse worker Trevor West, 60, viewed the child sex abuse images after clicking on links in a internet chat room where he discussed abuse with other paedophiles, Leeds Crown Court was told.

Michael Smith, prosecuting, said police went to West's home in Wakefield on March 24 2017 and seized a mobile phone and a laptop computer.

Mr Smith said West, who denied he had gained any pleasure from viewing the images, also told police he went in chat rooms where there were chats about sex with animals.

Police examined West's mobile phone and found 248 indecent images of children at category A, the most serious category.

A total of 224 images were at category B and 134 were category C.

One computer generated indecent image was found on West's laptop.

Mr Smith said the images were created between September 2015 and March 2017 and some involved the abuse of very young babies and toddlers.

West, of Basford Court, Wakefield, admitted three charges of making indecent photographs and one charge of possessing a prohibited image of a child.

The court heard that in June 2000 he was convicted of publishing obscene articles after distributing notes seeking sexual contact with children.

Mark McKone, mitigating, said West is a married man who works in a warehouse and earns £15,000 a year.

Judge Robin Mairs told West: "It's quite clear that you have a sexual interest in children, including very young children.

"Whether you admit it to yourself or not, it's quite clear that you are a paedophile."

Judge Mairs added: "Your perverted desires have not diminished over the years."

Judge Mairs handed West to a two year prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered him to take part in a 90 day sex offender treatment programme.

West, who was made the subject of a ten year sexual harm prevention order, must also complete 30 rehabilitation activity days.
