Wakefield van driver stopped after driving 60 miles to "buy paint"

A Wakefield van driver was stopped by police after travelling more than 60 miles to allegedly pick up paint.

The motorist was stopped on the A19 in Northallerton for speeding on Sunday.

And when he was quizzed by officers, he told them he was driving to Yarm in North Yorkshire to collect the paint for a "home project".

North Yorkshire Police Roads Policing Group took to social media and described the incident as "unbelievable".

It comes as drivers are still being warned not to make any unnecessary journeys as part of the lockdown measures.
