Warning to car owners after spate of thefts from vehicles in Knottingley

Wakefield Police are urging car owners to check and double check their vehicles are locked after a number of thefts in the Knottingley area

Wakefield East and South East officers said they have seen a number of vehicles targeted overnight on Monday, March 9.

They took place around Gillan Street, Elizabeth Drive, Woodville Way, Plowes Way and Springfield Avenue.

Most the of vehicles had personal items left on view and were left unlocked.

Property including handbags, sunglasses, reading glasses, Sat Navs, loose change, a tool box and tobacco.

Officers said two suspects were caught on CCTV and investigations are ongoing to try to identify them.

They said: "Please remember to remove all of your valuables, however small, from view of place them in the boot when leaving your vehicles.

"Offences can take place anywhere. In a car park, at the side of the road or on your driveway.

"Always check you have locked your vehicle by trying the door handle and remember to rub off any marks on the window left by your Sat Nav holder."

Please remember to remove all your valuables, however small, from view or place them in the boot when leaving your vehicles.
