Warning as catalytic converters are stolen in Wakefield
Car owners are being warned that catalytic converter thieves have struck in Wakefield.
Most recently, one was taken from underneath a Honda Jazz parked at Pugneys Country Park, and one from a Toyota Auris parked in a city centre supermarket.
Thieves target them because of the value of the precious metals they contain and can be cut from the vehicle in a matter of minutes using a saw.
Catalytic converters help to control the amount if harmful pollutants that are released from the car.
Usually, 4x4s are the choice for the thefts because the converters are more accessible.
