Warning over potentially lethal batch of party drug ecstasy

People who take ecstasy are being warned that a dangerous batch of the drug is circulating.

They are being urged to avoid “superman ecstasy”, which has been linked to four deaths in Suffolk and Shropshire.

UK-wide warnings have been issued to ecstasy users to be on the look out for the dangerous pills, which are red and carry the superman “S” logo.

Forensic tests have found the tablets contain a potentially lethal ingredient called PMMA.

Bryan Dent, West Yorkshire Police’s drugs coordinator, said: “Users of any drug can never be really sure of the contents of anything they take but with ecstasy, which is a class A drug meaning it’s illegal to possess and supply, the potential health issues are very real and potentially fatal.”

Anyone with information about ecstasy, in particular the “superman” batch, is asked to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or their neighbourhood policing team on 101.
