Armed police were called to an incident in Wakefield city centre this afternoon.

Roads around Kirkgate were closed around 1.40pm today.

Witnesses said they had seen armed officers arrive at the scene, near the back entrance of the Ridings Centre.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Police attended on Kirkgate in Wakefield at about 1.10pm this afternoon and detained two men as part of investigation.

"For operational; reasons we cannot comment further at this stage."
