It’s finally here, the votes are in and we can finally announce the winner of the Wakefield Express Curry House Of The Year 2016.
We asked you to vote for who you thought should be given the coveted crown of the best
Curry House in the area. We wanted you to take into consideration what it was that you thought gave yours the edge, what lifted it above its rivals and gave you what you wanted.
And you did, thanks to the strength of this year’s entrants we’ve had hundreds of votes registered for the curry houses that featured in the top 10.
But in the end there could be only one winner – LaLa’s, on Westgate.
In second place came Cinnamon Lounge on Bridge Road, Horbury; and in third place came The Spiced Mango on New Road, Middlestown.
Junior Rashid, owner of Lala’s, thanked all his customers, staff and those who voted for the restaurant. “We’re overwhelmed with the response, thank you for all the support,” he said. “We’ve had the move to Westgate to a bigger and better place – winning this is the icing on the cake.
“We’ve got a fantastic following. We’ve always emphasised good food and great service.”
Sam Miah, owner of runner-up Cinnamon Lounge, said: “We’ve been going for the last 12 years so we’ve got our own reputation and our own following. This is what makes us successful – our customers.”
He thanked all of his customers and said he hoped to bag first place next year.
Abdul Hakim of The Spiced Mango said: “We’re proud to come third out of all the restuarants. It’s the quality of the food and the atmosphere.”
Popular choices that also reached the top ten included Abduls, Amaia, BaltiHouse and Harby’s at Dimple Well Lodge.
Kashmiri Aroma, Red Chilli 2 and Shan’s also managed a place in the top ten.
The Express thanks everyone who participated and hope that they all enter again in 2017 to see if they can win!
