Dancers set to entertain the crowds

Three groups of young people – from Glass Houghton-based Dolls Dance Training, Pro Event Youth Dance and Altofts Junior School – joined forces to learn the routine, which sees the young people form a giant wheel using their movement to depict the turning of the wheel. They will be holding 14 large pieces of material to represent the spokes of the wheel.

The dancers had just three weeks to learn the dance, which will be performed at the Scott Hall Road, Leeds, site of the Grand Depart on July 5.

Dance leaders Michelle Eadie and Lauren Crowcroft had to attend an intensive training day to learn the choreography for the dance. The youngsters will be joined by youth groups from DAZL and RJC Dance, both from Leeds.

Sarah Elston, director of Pro Event Yorkshire, said: “The children have had to work really hard to master the choreography with the large sheets and also keeping their fitness levels up throughout the four-minute piece.

“I am especially pleased at how the three groups have come together – and a special thank-you has to go to the children of Altofts Junior School for being a part of this special performance.

“The Grand Depart is an event that will be a unique experience for all involved and it’s great that we’ve been invited to be a part of such a prestigious event.”
