Dawn Bland needs sponsorship to get her poetry collection published so it can raise money to help people affected by mental health problems, homelessness and domestic violence.

The collection includes poems about her own mental health struggle and the support she has received.

Miss Bland, 50, said: “It’s like a healing process for me.

“The reasons I have written my poems are to get things out of my head, to tackle stigma and help people with mental health issues and domestic violence.”

Miss Bland’s collection will raise money for Spectrum People, Wakefield Baptist Church and the Community Awareness Programme (CAP).

Spectrum People runs a People’s Cafe each Tuesday and Wednesday on Union Street for vulnerable people.

Both the Barnsley Road church and CAP offer vital support to people affected by poverty and housing problems.

Miss Bland said: “I would like to thank everyone Spectrum People, CAP and the Baptist Church for supporting me and encouraging me.

“The book is going to be called My Journey.”
