Developer George Elliott and Associates has submitted a planning application to Wakefield Council seeking to demolish the Sessions House Yard building.

The site closed as a police station when officers moved to a new base at Pontefract Fire Station, Stumpcross Lane, in 2012.

If approved, the car park would have 24 spaces as well as two for disabled drivers.

It would be used by staff at the Haribo factory, on Front Street.

A design and access statement submitted with the application said the existing access to the site would also be widened by reducing the width of the footpath.

A new waiting area for lorries waiting to deliver and unload at the factory would also be created.

The statement said the building is now owned by Haribo.

It said: “The vacant two-storey building is currently vulnerable to vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

“The proposal is therefore to demolish the building with a view to use the site to create a secure car park for the use of staff and visitors to the factory.”
