Designer Steve Lovell has spent more than a year creating a London underground-style map of pubs across the Wakefield district.
His ‘Wakefield Orderaround’ plan maps out 307 pubs, bars and hotels in Wakefield, Pontefract, Castleford, South Elmsall and Hemsworth.
The 40-year-old former Wakefield College student said: “I was originally inspired by a small hand-drawn map of Wakefield city centre pubs in the style of the London Underground map in the Tut n Shive on Frederick Street in 1992.
“I’ve created the map in my spare time and it has been a labour of love.
“Wakefield is like my hometown, it was where I went out every week with friends for many years.
“I was extremely keen on incorporating the entire district into the map. “
Mr Lovell, who lives in Rothwell, studied graphic design at Leeds University and is no stranger to creative projects.
Over the years he has built a Tardis, restored a red telephone box and made various fancy dress costumes including several sets of Star Wars Stormtrooper armour.
He has also previously created a similar pub map of Leeds.
Mr Lovell added: “I have had a really good reaction to the Leeds map I made, people have even asked me to sign it.
“I like the fact that the Wakefield map includes the full area and it’s something everyone can relate to.
“Hopefully there will be places people don’t even know existed. It’s a colourful thing to look at and it’s a bespoke local project.”
He is currently working on a map of Bradford and eventually hopes to cover Calderdale and Kirklees to complete all of West Yorkshire.
The maps costs £14 including delivery. For more information visit www.albanydesign.co.uk
