Distinctive mountain bikes stolen from garage

Four custom mountain bikes worth £7,500 were stolen from a garage.

Thieves broke into the garage at a property on The Sycamores, Horbury, sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning.

They forced the garage door open and stole the bikes, as well as tools and four Citroen Saxo Vtr wheels.

Dawn Hirst said her husband, Jonathan, found the items had been taken when he got up for work.

She said: “As a family we are keen cyclists and my son Aaron often goes on weekend mountain bike trips.

“A lot of work and money has gone into these bikes and most have custom parts.

“They are very distinctive so we hope if anyone sees them for sale then we can get them back.”

The stolen bikes include a lime green Norco sight 7.1, an orange Alpine 160, a black and white Trek 7 6500 and a green Trek bike.

A Makita drill and nut runner, a DeWalt hammer drill and a DeWalt drill were also taken.

Insp Mark Chamberlain, of Wakefield Central neighbourhood police team, said: “The owner has suffered a significant loss in this offence and the property stolen will be easily identifiable.

“I would urge people to keep get in touch with the police if they have information as to its whereabouts or any information as to who committed the offence.”
