DETECTIVES have released CCTV images of a man who they believe tried to con his way into an elderly woman’s home.
They are investigating incidents in Newmillerdam where a man claimed to be from a water company.
A man called at a 89-year-old woman’s home on Barnsley Road between 7.15pm and 7.30pm on Friday.
He asked to check her drains but then ran off.
And on Monday a man called at the same house, between 1.15 pm and 1.30pm, claiming he was working close by and that the water needed to be turned off.
But after failing to get into the home he ran off.
Det Insp Paul Harrison, of Wakefield CID, said: “In a number of incidents suspects have knocked on doors saying there is a problem with the water supply and have asked the occupants to run the taps.
“While they have been distracted they have searched the property and stolen items.”
The suspect is of medium build, aged in his late 30s to early 40s.
He was wearing glasses and a hooded top.
