Doctor takes over as club president
Former doctor John Waring has taken over as president of Pontefract Rotary Club.
He thanked outgoing president Martin Brooke for his hard work and dedication when he took over the reins earlier this month.
Mr Waring, a former general practitioner who was well known in the town, will help the Pontefract club celebrate its 90th year, which will be marked with a special celebration in March 2017.
As part of his presidential duties, Mr Waring will be promoting Polio Plus, an international drive by rotary clubs around the world to eradicate polio, as well as the Dr Jackson Cancer Fund.
The rotary club meets at Kings Croft Hotel, Wakefield Road, from 12.15pm every Wednesday. New members are welcome.
