“Several potential environmental crime offences were also discovered and are now under investigation.”

The Department for Work and Pensions, HM revenue and Customs, a Wildlife Officer and HM Court and Tribunal Services were all involved in the operation.

And police said the Benefits Agency also carried out checks and is making follow up enquiries.

All vehicles and caravans were examined to check they were using legal fuel and were road worthy.

“I want to thank partner agencies for the excellent support they showed and hope the action taken demonstrates that we do listen and will react to local concern.”
