And former employees are being asked to share their memories.

Wakefield Civic Society is busy producing the film to celebrate the industrial heritage of the family-run firm which has played a key role in the city’s economy since the 1940s.

From modest beginnings with half a dozen staff in a small room on Kirkgate, the firm went on to produce around three million shirts and blouses a year, employing more than 1,500 people worldwide.

Civic Society member and amateur film maker Karn Dyson said: “This film will celebrate the history of Double Two and the role it has played in the community, the factory buildings in which many local people worked, and the impact the company has had on the city. We’ve already interviewed several people, and their stories are really bringing the place to life.

“From catching one of the old Double Two buses to work, to sewing special shirts for Tommy Cooper in the 1970s, there are so many fascinating stories to be told, and this sort of oral history is so important for our industrial heritage.

“We have lots of great historical photographs, archive material and old adverts in the film, but it is the words of the people who worked there which really makes it special”.
