Drug dealer's heroin and cocaine stash found in the kitchen cupboard

Police made the discovery when they executed a search warrant at John Knowles’s home in Knottingley in May last year.

Leeds Crown Court heard officers went to the 31-year-old’s home on Buttermere Walk and he showed them to a kitchen cupboard where bags of Class A drugs were found.

Knowles ran from the house but was detained after being chased.

More drugs and £3,819 in cash were found during a further search of the property.

A large quantity of a cooking agent was also found which is thought to have been used to mix with the drugs before being sold.

Knowles was released on bail but was arrested again after a dangerous driving incident.

Police Community Support Officers spotted Knowles sat in his car as he was parked on Sowgate Lane, Pontefract.

Abdul Shakoor, prosecuting, said Knowles appeared “frantic” as the officers approached and he started the engine.

One of the officers had to jump out of the way of the vehicle as he drove off.

The vehicle was traced to Knowles and was found parked outside his home later that day.

Knowles was the subjected of a suspended sentence for dangerous driving and having no insurance at the time of the incident.

Knowles pleaded guilty to possession of heroin and cocaine with intent to supply, possessing criminal property, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, having no insurance and breaching a suspended sentence order.

Richard Canning, mitigating, said Knowles had agreed to allow others to store the drugs and cash at his home after he became addicted to cocaine.

He said: “We are talking about a cocaine addict who got involved to fund his own habit, not to make money from others.”
