Duke of York Prince Andrew to officially open new Yorkshire Air Ambulance base

Prince Andrew, a former helicopter pilot and instructor in the Royal Navy, will officially open the new unit at a ceremony from 10am.

Peter Sunderland, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, chairman, said: “We are absolutely delighted that our royal patron, the Duke of York, has agreed to open the Nostell Air Support Unit.

“The relocation to Nostell is a major step forward for the charity. It is enhancing our service across the region, improving flying times to all areas and creating an operational overlap in our busiest areas.”

The charity moved the support unit from Leeds-Bradford Airport to the Nostell Priory estate in November 2013.

But the official ceremony, which is a private event, will take place at the site this morning.
