His co-accused Steven Harratt, 57, who is charged with assisting an offender, also had his case adjourned.

It’s alleged Harratt, of Willow Grove, Wakefield, supplied Otak with money, clothing, food, a Satellite Navigation System and the means to escape the United Kingdom.

Otak, an asylum seeker from Afghanistan, was arrested in Dover by officers from Kent Police.

The Recorder of Leeds, Judge Peter Collier, QC, adjourned the case until October 5.

He further remanded Otak in custody and granted Harratt bail.
