Elderly man left with serious injuries after Wakefield city centre crash

An elderly man suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car in Wakefield city centre.

The incident happened at around 4pm on Sunday, January 17, when a Toyota Hiace was reversing in Union Street.

The pedestrian, an 83-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Pinderfields Hospital.

Police Constable Dave Laybourne, from West Yorkshire Police Safer Roads Unit, said: “I would like to appeal to anyone in the area on Sunday afternoon who may have seen the vehicle or the pedestrian prior to the incident or who may have witnessed the collision itself to come forward. Enquiries are ongoing.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact PC Dave Laybourne of West Yorkshire Police Safer Roads Unit via 101 quoting 023495.
