Elderly man punched in face in ‘unprovoked attack’ in Wakefield pub

Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly man was punched in the face in an ‘unprovoked’ attack at a Wakefield pub.

The victim was stood beside the pool table in the Wagon, Westgate End, when the suspect started shouting at him before carrying out the assault.

The man suffered facial injuries. The suspect is believed to have then left the pub with another man and a woman.

Police have now released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to about the incident, which happened at around 8.55pm on Friday, March 20.

The suspect is described as white, of medium build, in his mid 20s, around 5”8 tall and with short black spiky hair. He was wearing a tight t-shirt and blue jeans and possibly has a sleeve of tattoos on his left arm.

Police sergeant Chris Raby, of Wakefield central neighbourhood police team (NPT), said: “This unprovoked attack took place when the pub was busy and I am sure someone will have seen something, or will be able to identify the person in the CCTV.”
