Wakefield Council said it would begin rounds again on Tuesday, June 9, after a three month hiatus, although some homes will not be reached until July 3.

The local authority is putting together a temporary schedule for households, and residents will receive a letter telling them when exactly their bin needs to go out.

Grass clippings and dead plants have gone uncollected from households during lockdown, as staff who would normally carry out the service were redeployed.

Councillor Maureen Cummings, Cabinet member for communities, said: "We understand that it hasn’t been easy to store garden waste while everyone has been at home and the weather has been so nice but I’d just like to thank residents for their understanding and ask that you continue to bear with us while we get back up and running.”

Recycling centres in the district, where garden waste can also be left, did re-open after the first May bank holiday.
