Family flies in for Joyce's 100th

Family members flew across the globe to help mark the 100th birthday of a Pontefract woman.

Joyce Godson reached the triple-figure milestone on Friday and celebrated in style with her family, some of which had travelled from Australia.

Others had come from London to mark the big occasion at her home on Thorpe Lane.

Having always lived in the district, she served as office staff for the police during the war.

Her husband, Geoff, passed away in 1991, but she continues to live independently with her son and grandson just a few doors away.

Bluebird Care Wakefield has been lending support since September of last year to help her keep her independence.

Director Narinder Gill said:“She remains very fit and fully mobile. “Staff feel she is a pleasure to support.”
