A family fun event featuring a robot dog and livem usic takes place in the town centre on Saturday.

It will mark the end of Normanton’s shopping week, designed to help businesses and traders in the town.

Normanton Town Council’s special projects committee produced a brochure of offers, including money off fish and chips or a full English breakfast, an afternoon tea for two for £8.95, discounted eye exams, up to 25 per cent off a variety of hair and beauty treatments and discounts on shoes, cards and gifts, stationery and baking supplies.

The brochure has been available at shops around the town centre.

Saturday’s event – from 11am to 3pm – will finish off the scheme, with performances from Normanton Knightingales cheerleaders and Black Widow Taekwondo, free face painting, a live jazz band and an appearance from Sheridan the robotic dog.

Local community groups will be fundraising on the market.

The project has been supported by Normanton Market, Normanton Town Centre Partnership and Normanton Local Business Forum.

Coun Elaine Blezard, chairman of the special projects committee, said: “Shopping week is a fantastic opportunity to support our local businesses and discover the great selection of shops that we have in our town centre.

“Our thanks must go to all the businesses which are supporting the event.

“We hope everyone has an enjoyable day and continues to support our town centre.’
