Family walks in Rory's memory

The Embling family joined around 1,200 other people for the walk, which was organised by leading heart charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

They first became involved with CRY after the death of Rory Embling – who died in May 2014, aged just 26, from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.

He left the family home in May 2014, a seemingly fit and healthy young man, but died as the result of a heart arrhythmia while travelling as a passenger in a car to a sporting event in Nottingham.

The CRY Heart of London Bridges Walk, now in its 12th year, has raised more than £750,000 since its launch in 2007. The charity’s supporters held a minute’s silence before walking past 12 of London’s most famous landmarks - representing the deaths of the 12 apparently healthy young people who die every week in the UK from young, sudden, cardiac death (YSCD).

CRY chief executive Dr Steven Cox said: “CRY’s Heart of London Bridges Walk is always a very emotional and poignant day and, over the past 12 years, it has really focused on raising awareness and remembering those young people who have died, as well as helping to raise funds to save young lives.

“It also provides a unique opportunity for our supporters to come together and meet up with other families who will have been through a similar experience. We are immensely grateful to the Embling family and everyone who took part this year, all of whom will have their own personal experience of the devastating impact of a sudden cardiac death of a young person close to them.”
