Festive season gets underway with Wakefield’s Christmas lights switch-on

The festive season officially started when the city’s Christmas lights were switched on.

Families enjoyed a festive Christmas music and a festive market as lights were switched on yesterday in the city centre and Trinity Walk shopping centre.

The city centre market, organised by Wakefield Council will continue today and tomorrow from 10am-5pm.

Christmas lights in the Ridings Shopping centre will be switched on tomorrow in a day of festive fun which starts at 11am.

A surprise star of ITV’s X-Factor will appear at the event, along with Britain’s Got Talent finalists Old Men Grooving, the Wakefield Wildcats, pantomime characters from Theatre Royal Wakefield’s cast of Dick Whittington, Father Christmas and other performers.

Free parking in the council’s city centre car parks and on-street parking will also be provided on November 26, December 3, December 10, December 17 and December 24.
