Councillors approved a motion to write to Orchard Croft Medical Centre in Horbury, which runs the branch, and Wakefield Clinical Commissioning Group to oppose the plans.

It promised to seek assurance that alternatives to closure will be considered and that residents’ views will be taken into account. Of the 55 members present, 53 voted in favour of the motion and two abstained.

The medical centre announced plans to shut its Netherton branch in February. It said trying to cover GP sessions in the village was “stretching resources”.
