But organisers released a further 500 places, which were all taken this afternoon (Friday).

They are now in talks with health and safety bosses to see if they can increase the number of runners to 6,000.

The marathon will take place on October 20 in York.

It is being organised by the Jane Tomlinson’s For All Events, which was set up by the Tomlinson family as a legacy to Jane who raised £1.5m before she died in 2007.

TV football pundit Chris Kamara, of Kirkhamgate, is one of the famous Yorkshire faces backing the event, as well as double Paralympic gold medallist Hannah Cockroft.
