Free parking in city and town centres in run up to Christmas

Wakefield Council is reminding residents free parking is on offer to make it easier and more affordable for people to do their Christmas shopping in the district.

Free parking is available in council parking areas in Wakefield, Pontefract and Castleford, on Thursdays from 3pm, until Christmas.

Coun Matthew Morley, Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, said: “We want to help encourage more people to do their Christmas shopping locally.

“That’s why we’re reminding everyone we offer free parking in Wakefield, Pontefract and Castleford in the run-up to Christmas.

“We hope that this will give a boost to our local retailers and benefit residents and visitors.”

The council’s on-street parking spaces and its own car parks are next free on December 8, then on December 15 and December 22.

Signs will be displayed on or next to parking payment machines to publicise the dates for free parking. The free parking offer does not include privately-run car parks or Merchant Gate multi-storey car park.
