Amanda Bray, of Netherton, has helped to organise the event to raise funds for Meningitis Now, in the year William would have turned 18 and the charity marks its 30th.

Family friend Mrs Bray said: “You get stronger as time goes on but it doesn’t get any easier. There’s not a day goes by when we don’t think about William, and that is why we wanted to do this.”

William’s family and friends have raised more than £60,000 for the charity since his death in December 2012.

The fun day, which includes horse classes, a barbecue and raffle, takes place from 9.30am until 4pm at Rockwood Equestrian Centre on Saturday, July 23. It will also raise funds for the Luke and Marcus Trust.

A group of friends will also complete a sky dive for the two charities, and Cancer Research UK on July 30.

Mrs Bray thanked Rockwood owners Charlotte and Andy Hoyle, businesses and individuals for their support.
