Funeral for Jack Fulton - ‘Castleford Tigers wouldn’t be where it is today without him’

Jack Fulton, who became chairman at Castleford RLFC in the early 1990s, died last week at the age of 83. Tigers’ supporters have left dozens of tributes at the club’s Wheldon Road stadium.

Ian Fulton said: “On behalf of my mum, myself and our family I would like to thank everybody who has offered their kind thoughts and condolences following the passing of my dad.

“The support that has been shown is overwhelming and humbling. Dad’s loves we’re firstly his family, which he always put first, horse racing and Castleford. Castleford and rugby league gave dad huge amounts of pleasure over the years especially the success as a club we have enjoyed over the last two years.

“On behalf of my family I would like to thank everybody for their kind messages and support.”

Tigers head coach Daryl Powell said will be forever grateful to Jack for his support of Castleford Tigers over the years.

He said: “Jack was an outstanding man who has done so much for Castleford Tigers over many years. He’ll be sadly missed by everyone at the club and my thoughts are with the Fulton family at this difficult time. ”

Michael Shenton, Tigers’ captain, said: “Jack was a great man. Castleford Tigers wouldn’t be where it is today without him. Sticking by the club through thick and thin showed his commitment to the club he loved.

“Mine and all the players’ thoughts go out to Bridie and Jack’s family at this time.”

A book of condolences has been opened at the club shop the Tigers Den, in Carlton Lanes Shopping Centre, Castleford, until Friday.

Mr Fulton’s funeral will be held on Monday, October 12 at noon at St Robert’s Catholic Church, Robert Street, Harrogate, North Yorkshire. A private cremation service will follow.

A wake will then be held at the Pavilion at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

A club spokeswoman said Tigers’ fans are welcome at the church and the Showground.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Motor Neurone Disease Association and St Michael’s Hospice.
